Hispanics in Philanthropy

Membership Coordinator
Berkeley, CA
January 1999 – February 2001

  • Managed and maintained a database that comprised of Latine philanthropic professionals of recognized national foundations. This database served as a valuable resource for networking, collaboration, and the sharing of best practices among members. It was regularly updated to ensure accuracy and relevance, facilitating effective communication and engagement within the community.
  • I, along with the HIP admin team successfully planned and executed the inaugural national bi-annual membership conference in Washington, D.C., which attracted over 300 attendees. Organization and coordination ranged from selecting the appropriate venue that could accommodate our guests, contracting with the appropriate vendors and confirming arrangements for our Board of Directors and speakers. During the duration of the conference, I was managing volunteers and troubleshooting real-time issues. Overall, this experience demonstrated my ability to lead large-scale events and enhance member engagement within our organization.
  • I was tasked with the responsibility of planning, coordinating, and preparing an international delegation for a significant cross-cultural learning expedition to Cuba. This endeavor was particularly challenging due to the tremulous relations between the United States and Cuba.
I conducted research to understand the political climate and the challenges related to the logistical arrangements such as travel, accommodations, and permits of traveling to Cuba. I established communication channels with local guides and interpreters who could provide valuable insights and support during the expedition. When communicating with the participants, I emphasized the importance of cultural sensitivity and respect, given the historical context of US-Cuba relations.
  • The HIP team coordinated the yearly board of directors meeting that was hosted in Cozumel, Mexico. Due to the expectations of the board members, this involved meticulous organization to ensure that all aspects of the event were seamless. Logistics included travel reservations, selecting a venue that offered both high end accommodations and professional conference amenities and local transportation for all attendees. I worked closely with local vendors to organize a detailed agenda that included informative sessions, networking opportunities, and leisure activities that highlighted the charm of Cozumel. Our efforts created an engaging environment that fostered collaboration and strategizing among the board members while also allowing them to enjoy the stunning surroundings.
