In August of 2017 at the 38th Annual California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce annual Conference, Joe Partida and I reconnected. Everyone in Oakland knows Joe. He’s that guy. He invited me to a closed door meeting of key individuals that were discussing the need to restart a chamber in Oakland. We had the support of the CHCC to move forward and that they would support us the whole way.
Joe asked if I could help out by sending some emails and planning some mixers. We had Monthly Mixers showcasing some of Oakland’s best restaurants. We have succeeded in bringing together like-minded business owners and the community in support of each other. We started having open Board Meetings since October 2017 and now we have a 15-Member Board of Directors, acquired our 501(c)6 status, set up committees of dedicated volunteers and are growing our Membership Rolls every day.
On Friday February 21, I officially resigned as ED of the OLCC. It was a sad moment. I am proud of the work I was able to do and still happy to have worked with a dedicated group of people who are looking to improve Oakland and the Bay Area for everyone.
